‘Tis the season for decorating trees, wrapping gifts, spending time with family, and of course, listening to your favorite festive tunes. Brighten up the holiday season with the best Christmas songs, perfect for any holiday playlist or party!
You know the holiday season is here when Christmas music starts playing on repeat just about everywhere you go. The best Christmas songs always seem to find that perfect balance between nostalgia and timelessness. With that said, A good Christmas song can warm the heart of even the grumpiest Grinch during this festive time of year. As Buddy the Elf would say, “the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.”
Very few things get me excited for this magical time of year like Christmas songs do. Before I even begin to put away my Halloween decorations to get ready for Thanksgiving, I’m frequently humming lines from Rudolph and Frosty around the house! There’s something joyous to me about listening to songs we only get to hear one month out of the year.
Whether you’re counting down the minutes until Santa Claus arrives, or planning out a festive holiday party, Christmas songs are always at the forefront of the holiday season. That’s why I put together this list of the best Christmas songs to help keep your holiday season full of joy and love!
This Christmas classic was first recorded by Brenda Lee in 1958. However, the song didn’t catch on until two years later as it became a hit in 1960. “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” has been a Christmas favorite ever since.
“Jingle Bell Rock” was initially released in 1957 and topped the charts five years in a row thereafter. This symbolic Christmas tune remains a holiday favorite at festive parties and family gatherings.
“Little Saint Nick,” performed by the Beach Boys is one of the most famous versions of this song. This song was included in the Beach Boys’ Christmas album in 1964, and remains one of the Christmastime classics!
“Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” was written in 1932 and was first featured on the Eddie Cantor radio show back in 1934. This Christmastime classic became even more popular when artists like Andrews Sisters and Bing Crosby began recording it. This popular Christmas tune is now celebrated year after year, and Bruce Springsteen has even made it a tradition to play this song during his holiday concerts.
For many of us, “The Christians and the Pagans,” by Dar Williams, is traditional holiday song played at Christmas parties and holiday celebrations every year. The song was released in 1996 and has quickly become a Christmas favorite.
