Did you remember desperately wanting Santa Claus to bring you that one special thing toy that was at the top of your Christmas Wish List and then being so thrilled when you found it under the tree on Christmas morning? Chances are you recall one or two precious gifts, but what if you could have a chronology of your Christmas Wish List presents?
Children grow up so fast, so preserve the fleeting memories with a Christmas Wish List Ornament that you can make at home. It is an easy craft that children will love to make and their Christmas wish list is a moment in time that you can now keep forever. Make sure to make a Christmas Wish Ornament every year and your children will have lasting keepsake of their favorite toys and gifts over the years.
If your child can write his or her own Christmas Wish List, it will be all the better preserved in the handwriting of a child. Because the paper is small, you can let children know that Santa’s elves are small and need tiny things to read!
Supplies:
Step 1: Have your child write out a Christmas wish list on a white piece of paper. If it is too large, you can type it to shrink it down to the proper size. If your child cannot write yet, make the Christmas wish list on your own.
Step 2: Paint the spool of thread and let it dry. To preserve the paint, coat with a layer of clear varnish.
Step 3: While the varnish is drying, write your child’s name on the tag and his or her age, then tie the tag to the ribbon. We embellished with jingle bells on the two ends of the ribbon, but this is optional.
Step 4: Glue approximately ½ inch of the top of the paper to the spool of thread. Wind the rest of the list around the spool in order to curl it a bit.
Step 5: Thread the ribbon through the center of the spool and tie in a bow at the top. Add holiday embellishments or glitter to make the Christmas wish list festive.
That’s it! Now you have the Christmas wish list preserved for each of your children that you can make every year. For fun, you can have each one of your children assigned a different color paint for the spools or you can paint the spools in your child’s favorite color, which may change year after year.
